Home group (Branded)
Branded is a place for post-High school age people to meet in an informal atmosphere to discuss and learn about the plans God has for our lives. Topics are either based around particular books of the bible or on contemporary issues, such as work, culture and love. The group meets in our homes on Tuesday nights at 7pm. Being a group that cares for one another there are opportunities for sharing experiences, a time of prayer and shared snacks.
Social Events
Young Adults also get together on occasion for social events, such as movie nights, go-karting, hiking, snow-boarding and more. So that no one misses out, resources are shared for those unable to meet costs.
Camps/major events
We all need a break once in a while, so summer holidays, post-exams, include a retreat where everyone can take the time to relax in the sun and blow off some steam.
Service events
The evidence of our love is in the way we treat one another, so we also share the gifts God has given us with the community.
Soccer Team (Shirley Strikers)
The Shirley Strikers are a championship soccer team! Well, we try anyway! We play in the Christchurch Interchurch Soccer League with about twenty other teams, in three divisions. The season starts on the Saturday after Easter weekend and runs until September. Games are held fortnightly on Saturday mornings with practices on non-game weekends. We also have a 7-aside competition to finish off the season. Uniforms are supplied but players must provide and wear their own shin-pads, socks and boots. Season subs are minimal. Players are generally in the 16 to 35 age group, but not limited to this. We're a welcoming bunch of varying abilities so come and join us. |
