Junior Youth
Junior Youth is designed for Year 7 to 9 kids. Youth have a fun time together, playing games and learning about the plan God has for our lives. Wednesday night from 6:30pm to 8:30pm is normally a bible study with a range of other activities. Monthly social activities are held, along with other serving activities.
Senior Youth
Senior Youth is designed to challenge Year 10 to 13 kids in extending their knowledge of God’s word, getting deeper into a relationship with God and applying it to their lives.
A more intimate group allows opportunities to build strong mentoring relationships via discussions and activities during the week. Building relationships with the young people allows them to reflect the love of Jesus in more than just words. It also furthers the opportunities to encourage them, extend them in their faith and challenge them in specific areas.
Topics include materialism, advertising, peer pressure, character studies etc.
Monthly social activities are held, along with other serving activities. We meet at 7:00pm on a Friday night during school terms. The program runs until 9pm, but youth may stay and chill out until 10pm.
Youth Events
Past events have included a basketball match, a snow trip, yearly camps, combined nights with other youth groups, picnics and more! All events are concerned with providing a safe and fun environment for youth to enjoy and invite friends as well. We also have unihoc, pool and table tennis equipment which we make use of from time to time.
Youth Camps
You’ll be able to come along to at least two camps every year. Easter Camp (for Year 9 - 13 students) in conjunction with other Christian churches in
Christchurch (Spencer Park) and the Youth Group camp over summer. This normally occurs in December. In 2008 we will be heading to Glenroy Lodge on the weekend of 12-14 December.Easter Camp is an annual camp for four days in April. More information is available at www.eastercamp.org.nz
Soccer Team (Shirley Strikers)
The Shirley Strikers are a championship soccer team! Well, we try anyway! We play in the Christchurch Interchurch Soccer League with about twenty other teams, in three divisions. The season starts on the Saturday after Easter weekend and runs until September. Games are held fortnightly on Saturday mornings with practices on non-game weekends. We also have a 7-aside competition to finish off the season. Uniforms are supplied but players must provide and wear their own shin-pads, socks and boots. Season subs are minimal. Players are generally in the 16 to 35 age group, but not limited to this. We're a welcoming bunch of varying abilities so come and join us.
